Continental Joins Other Legacy Carriers With Increased Baggage Fees

Tuesday, April 08, 2008 11:09:00 AM

On May 5, Continental Airlines will begin charging coach-class passengers $25 for a second checked bag, matching United, Delta, US Airways and Northwest.

Customers who are elite members of Continental’s frequent-flyer program don’t have to pay $25 for the second checked bag. Continental Airlines Presidential Plus credit card holders and non-elite customers who pay for full-fare economy or premium-class tickets are also exempt.

Checked bags must meet weight and size restrictions or will be subject to additional fees.

The policy will apply to destinations within the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Canada.
